ScaleAround is launching two online AI courses. Leading Through AI is a one-day, CPD-certified programme for senior leaders on governing AI and leading people through the change. Practical Prompt Engineering is a 3-hour course for anyone who uses AI tools at work and wants consistently useful output from them. Both run over Teams in small cohorts. And for eligible Welsh employers, Welsh Government funding covers up to 75% of the cost of accredited AI training completed by 31 March 2027, which makes the leadership day a very easy decision.
Here is what each one is, who it is for, how to choose between them, and how the funding works.
Why we built them
Most of the AI problems we see in businesses are leadership and skills problems with a thin layer of technology on top. Staff using tools nobody has checked, leaders asked to govern something they do not understand, and a lot of money going into pilots with no owner. PwC’s latest survey of chief executives found more than half had seen no return from AI in the past year, and the reason is almost never the technology.
The two courses attack both ends of that. One teaches people to get useful, safe work out of the tools. The other teaches the people in charge to govern it and lead through it. Neither needs a technical background. Both are built from what we do on real engagements, including our AI governance work, and both are built around the delegate’s own work rather than generic examples.
Leading Through AI
A full day, 09:30 to 17:00 over Teams, for senior leaders and leadership teams responsible for how their organisation adopts AI. It is CPD certified, certificate 900273.
The day splits into two halves. I lead the governance side, which UK regimes and the EU AI Act apply to you, how to tier your real AI uses by risk, and how to decide which uses and which suppliers to back. Sarah Williment, our organisational development associate, leads the people side, where your organisation sits on the change curve, how to read resistance, and what actually happens to roles.
The day runs in six sessions. An honest read of where you actually are, including the AI already in use without sign-off. Governance foundations, the rules and risk tiering. Leading the change, when to manage, command or lead. Judgement, roles and capability. Deciding well, scoring uses and spotting supplier red flags. And making it stick, an operating model and a 90-day plan. No screen session runs past 60 minutes without a break.
Leaders leave with an AI acceptable use policy template, a risk assessment method, a use case register, a supplier due diligence checklist, an operating model sketch, and a 90-day plan with three dated commitments each. It is the condensed version of our full 6-module programme, and it works as a standalone day or as the first step into the longer one.
£450 per delegate, cohorts of 10 to 12. Full details on the Leading Through AI page, and our article on what actually changes for a leader gives a flavour of the thinking.
Practical Prompt Engineering
Three hours over Teams for anyone who uses, or is about to use, AI tools at work. No technical background assumed, and the skill is tool-agnostic, so you practise in whichever tool your organisation already provides.
The course is built on a mnemonic, REMIT. Role, Essential background, Mission, In-bounds and out-of-bounds, Target format. Set the model’s REMIT and most of the quality problem disappears. We rebuild a failed prompt live and score it as a room after every change, cover the four techniques that fix most prompts, context loading, output specification, worked examples and iterative critique, and then every delegate builds a reusable prompt for a real task from their own job and has a partner test it cold.
You leave with that prompt, usable the same afternoon, a one-page reference sheet covering REMIT and the four techniques, and the checks to run before relying on any AI answer. Throughout, the rule is to bring the task and leave the data behind.
£250 per delegate, cohorts of 6 to 12. A CPD submission is in preparation. Full details on the Practical Prompt Engineering page, and our piece on the 5 habits that matter is a preview.
Which one, or both
Send the people who use AI tools day to day to Practical Prompt Engineering. Fee earners, analysts, marketers, operations staff, anyone who is already asking a tool for drafts and analysis and getting mixed results. Three hours, and they come back producing better work.
Send the leadership team to Leading Through AI. The chief executive, the operations director, the heads of function, anyone who will be asked by a board, a client or a regulator how AI is being used in the business. One day, and they come back with a policy, a plan and the confidence to govern it.
Many organisations do both, in either order. A leadership team that has been through the day tends to want the wider staff on the shorter course, because they now know what safe use looks like and want everyone practising it.
The Welsh Government funding
Through the Flexible Skills Programme, eligible Welsh employers can claim back up to 75% of the cost of accredited AI training, up to £50,000 per application, for training completed by 31 March 2027. The employer pays the full fee first and claims the funding afterwards, and approval sits with the Welsh Government, so it is discretionary rather than automatic.
On that basis Leading Through AI comes down to £112.50 per delegate for an eligible employer, and Practical Prompt Engineering will follow the same route once its CPD accreditation is confirmed, at £62.50. If you have been meaning to get your leadership team properly briefed on AI, the window to do it at a quarter of the price closes at the end of March, and the training has to be completed by then, not just booked.
We will send the funding guidance with every booking.
How to book
Both courses run as open cohorts you can book per seat, or privately for one organisation, which we quote separately and tailor to your sector and your actual AI uses. Start on our contact page and tell us which course and how many people, and we will send dates, joining details and the funding guidance. You will need a Teams link and a browser.
Frequently asked questions
Are the courses online?
Yes. Both run over Microsoft Teams. You need a Teams link and a browser, and the standing rule is to bring the task and leave the data behind.
Is Leading Through AI CPD certified?
Yes, certificate 900273. A CPD submission for Practical Prompt Engineering is in preparation.
How does the Welsh Government funding work?
Eligible Welsh employers can claim up to 75% of the cost of accredited AI training through the Flexible Skills Programme for training completed by 31 March 2027. The employer pays first and claims back, subject to Welsh Government approval.
Which course should my team do first?
If the question is how to get better results from the tools, Practical Prompt Engineering. If the question is how to govern AI and lead the change, Leading Through AI. Leadership teams usually do the day first and then send wider staff on the shorter course.
Do I need any technical background?
No, for either course. Both are built for non-technical people and practised in whatever tool your organisation already uses.
Can we run a course just for our own team?
Yes. Either course can be delivered privately for one organisation and tailored to your sector. In-company delivery is quoted separately, so contact us with numbers.
